Embrace the Ancient Practice of Silence

Embrace the power of silence and find inner peace through Siddhayatan’s 5-Day Silent Intensive Retreat. Silence provides a sanctuary for your soul, helping you quiet the mind, reconnect with yourself, and gain clarity on life’s purpose.

What is Deep Silence?

In the Jain monk tradition at Siddhayatan, silence, or maun, is a spiritual practice that involves the conscious mastery of speech, thought, and action to cultivate inner stillness and self-awareness. It is seen as a means to reduce karmic accumulation, deepen introspection, and connect with the soul's purity. By practicing silence, spiritual practitioners aim to increase awareness, humility, and detachment from worldly distractions and desires, leading to spiritual growth and liberation.

Words from Our Guests

Hear from our guests who have found healing, transformation, and inspiration from our teachings and community.

I visited for a silent retreat. I stayed in the cedar room. It was my first significant exposure to Jainism and my first silent retreat experience. I cannot say enough positive about Siddhayatan and the people there. The accommodations were exactly as promise, clean simple and comfortable. The food was wonderful served exactly on schedule. The grounds are lovely and available for you to roam. Whatever inner purpose can be sought here. I felt such a strong non judgmental spirit there from everyone I encountered. I hope I return here soon.

This place changed my life. I originally went for a silent retreat just to clear out my head and ended up taking classes and learning techniques that in less than a week’s time has helped me all but eliminate use of the anxiety medication I have been on for most of my adult life. Not only did they help me with that but I now have a peace I have never had. I have always issues with religions but had a difficult time articulating my thoughts or working through all the questions in my head. I am now on a spiritual journey, not a religious one, and I am excited to see what my mind and soul are capable of achieving and becoming.

Several of my friends plan on visiting Siddhayatan and I plan on going again before the end of the year.

Whether you need a break from the stresses of life or feel like there is something missing from your life but you aren’t sure what, visit Siddhayatan. You will not regret it.

I had a fabulous time here this weekend. I went for a silent meditation retreat, not knowing what to expect. What I found was a beautiful, peaceful, clean space where I could do my own thing without anyone bothering me. The lodgings are NOT fancy, but they're impeccably clean and very comfortable. The bed was small but soft, with plenty of blankets, and the bathroom and shower were extremely clean and had hot water any time I needed it. The food was tasty and simple, and enough if you're not planning on doing anything strenuous. Next time I go back I'll bring some snacks in case I walk the grounds too much and get hungry between meals. I was not there to attend any classes, so I can't comment on those, but the folks running the place were extremely kind when I spoke to them, helpful when I needed them, and otherwise let me be--exactly what I wanted. There are rules to follow--like take your shoes off when you enter a building, and be respectful to the other guests. At no time did anyone make me feel like I had to follow a certain religious doctrine or philosophy. All you have to do there is be nice and take your shoes off. All in all, can't recommend it enough. I'll definitely be back.
